The nearest village has about 15,000 people and it is only 5 kilometers away. It has two banks, grocery shops, dentists, a community hospital, pharmacies, and all other conveniences found in such small towns. For a more sophisticated shopping and other facilities, there is the city of Atibaia which is 25 kilometers away. It is a city of 200,000 people and has all the conveniences you need including good hospitals, first class hotels, nice shopping area, restaurants, and lots to do. It is a town where upper middle class people from Sao Paulo use it either as a "bedroom community" or have weekend homes.
Below are the websites of some of our most affluent neighbors. Apart from that, all the surrounding properties are the so called "gentleman's farm" of good to high standard, and there are no polluting industries whatsoever.
WEBSITE LINKS OF INTEREST:
This is a huge resort -- brand new -- they just started about 5 or 6 months ago. It is 7 km from our property.
This is one of the "pousadas" (resorts) next to us (only 2 km away)
This is one of the largest resorts nearby (6 km from our property). The owner whom I met in a business meeting, started this enterprise over 20 years ago with one small house. He began by bringing people over for camping events, and kept on reinvesting the money into the property. Today his property is worth several millions of DOLLARS, and he even has his own tourism agency just for that resort.
This "pousada" belongs to an acquaintance of ours, he also started his business with a few rooms in a site in the village, and went on reinvesting from there. They are about 5 kms from us. This website is not much to speak of, clicking on the right places, you will be able to see what they offer! Today this pousada is also worth a LOT of money. Mind you, neither one of these two places are on the water, or have any interesting view!!!!

This is another pousada 5 kms from us.
This is one other pousada about 2 kms from us.
There is yet another pousada nearby (a very small one) that belongs to a good friend of ours, Luiz Barone (speaks English). He also has the largest boat and water ski parking garage in the area. He does not have a site. His restaurant is on the water with a million dollar view, and the food is good!
Universidade UniLuz is our close neighbor: http://www.nazareuniluz.org.br/ It is like a school and a retreat center geared towards Buddhism and such. It has its head office in Scotland. They hold retreats, and teachings to better the human beings.
It is also our neighbor, right next to the Universidade UniLuz. They are affiliated with the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) and are basically a College of Environmental studies.
